BOEING BOEING

by Marc Camoletti

translated by Beverley Cross & Francis Evans

2015

Prepare to jet back to the 1960s in this high flying fabulous farce. Bernard has the perfect life – a swish Parisian apartment and three glamorous air stewardess girlfriends. With some assistance from his disapproving housekeeper, his carefully constructed timetable runs like clockwork until a new, faster jet goes into service.

His supersonic lifestyle hits turbulence when the unexpected schedule changes bring all three women to his apartment at the same time, and his intricate ruse unravels in one wild, door-slamming night of comic mayhem.

Director's Notes

Boeing Boeing is one of the classic farces, a theatre genre which is enjoying a revival recently with plays such as ‘One Man Two Guvnors ‘having world-wide success.

Recently produced in the West End and on Broadway to huge acclaim, the challenges faced as a director of this show in 2015 revolve around the criticism that the play is somewhat misogynistic by modern standards. Which indeed it probably is on the surface, but this cleverly crafted script ensures that in the end the ladies come out on top and are left firmly in control of the situation! After all, it is the 60’s, when anything went, and the characters created by writer Marc Camoletti reflect the attitudes of the time and gloriously remind us of a time when love and life were simple – until modern technology changed the rules…!
